It is a bistro in the old sense: candles, close tables, a menu of familiar dishes done properly, and a wine list with more thought behind it than the room lets on.
The atmosphere is the point — low ceilings and low light make it feel more private than most of the town's restaurants, which is why it collects anniversary dinners and pre-theatre tables in roughly equal measure. Booking is advisable.
