Best Coffee Shops in Harrogate

Harrogate might be famous for tea, but there's a very good coffee scene hiding behind that reputation.

Alongside Bettys, you'll find speciality coffee shops, tiny independents, bakeries, brunch spots and neighbourhood cafés spread across the town.

Some are places to sit for a couple of hours. Others are somewhere to grab an excellent flat white and carry on exploring.

Bean & Bud

Commercial Street

If the coffee itself is the priority, Bean & Bud is an obvious place to start.

It's Harrogate's original speciality coffee and tea shop and has been part of the town's independent scene for years.

There's a rotating selection of single-origin coffees alongside loose-leaf teas, hot chocolate and a relatively simple food offering.

It's on Commercial Street too, one of the town centre's strongest little pockets of independent businesses.

This isn't really about elaborate brunch dishes or Instagram interiors. Come here because you care about what's in the cup.

The Silver Fox

Royal Parade

One of the newest names on Harrogate's coffee scene occupies a very familiar location.

The Silver Fox opened in 2026 in the former Hoxton North premises on Royal Parade, with much of the existing team remaining in place.

During the day, the focus is coffee and brunch, while the Royal Parade location puts you right beside the Montpellier Quarter, Royal Pump Room and Valley Gardens.

It's a good example of Harrogate's independent food and drink scene continuing to evolve rather than standing still.

Crema Coffee

Royal Parade

Just along Royal Parade, Crema is another strong option if you want more than a quick coffee.

Coffee is central to what they do, using beans from specialist roaster Divine Coffee Roasters, but there's also a substantial breakfast and brunch offering alongside homemade cakes.

Its location is particularly useful if you're exploring this side of Harrogate. Valley Gardens, Montpellier and the Royal Pump Room are all within a few minutes' walk.

Crema is also notably dog-friendly, which makes it a useful stop after a walk.

Manna

Cold Bath Road

Cold Bath Road deserves representation on any proper Harrogate coffee guide, and Manna is one of the reasons why.

Part bakery, part café, it's the sort of place where going in for coffee can very easily turn into leaving with something baked as well.

It also gives you an excuse to explore Cold Bath Road rather than sticking entirely to the traditional town-centre circuit.

Pair it with a wander around the surrounding independents or continue towards Valley Gardens afterwards.

LMDC

Harrogate town centre

Not every good coffee stop needs to be somewhere you settle in for brunch.

LMDC is one of the smaller independent names worth knowing about when you want a proper coffee while you're moving around town.

That's an important distinction in a town full of cafés. Sometimes you don't want table service, a large menu and an hour-long stop.

You just want good coffee.

Pink Door

King's Road

Sitting further up King's Road, Pink Door is an independent speciality coffee shop that feels more neighbourhood than tourist trail.

Alongside coffee, you'll find pastries, cakes, toasties, smoothies and smoothie bowls.

It's particularly useful if you're staying around King's Road, visiting the Convention Centre area or simply want to explore somewhere beyond the most obvious central café streets.

The bright pink frontage makes it fairly difficult to miss.

Yellow Chair

Montpellier Parade

Yellow Chair has an unusual split personality.

By day, it's a family-run neighbourhood café serving speciality coffee and café food. Later in the week, it transforms into a pizzeria serving Neapolitan-style pizza.

For this guide, we're interested in the daytime version.

Its Montpellier location makes it an easy coffee stop while exploring one of Harrogate's prettiest parts of town, particularly if you're combining it with Valley Gardens or the Pump Room.

Lago di Como

Beulah Street

For something with a distinctly Italian flavour, try Lago di Como.

This little Beulah Street café has developed a loyal following for Italian coffee, food and particularly its focaccia sandwiches.

It's another example of why it's worth exploring the streets around Harrogate town centre rather than defaulting to the biggest names on Parliament Street.

Come for coffee, but consider arriving hungry.

Nomad Café & Deli

Beulah Street

Also on Beulah Street, Nomad sits somewhere between coffee shop, café and deli.

It's independent and family-run, with a history in Harrogate stretching back more than two decades.

The food has a much more international feel than the typical café menu, moving through Mediterranean and global influences with breakfasts, brunch, mezze, gyros, cakes and baklava alongside the coffee.

That makes it particularly useful when one person wants coffee and cake while someone else wants an actual lunch.

Bettys

Parliament Street & RHS Garden Harlow Carr

We couldn't write about cafés in Harrogate and ignore Bettys.

It isn't a speciality coffee shop in the same mould as Bean & Bud, and it isn't a small independent newcomer.

It's something else entirely: part of the Harrogate experience.

The Parliament Street tearoom has been part of the town since 1919 and remains one of Harrogate's most recognisable institutions.

If you're visiting for the first time, it's worth experiencing at least once, whether that's for coffee and cake, breakfast, lunch or the full afternoon tea.

And remember there are two Bettys in Harrogate. The second is at RHS Garden Harlow Carr, so you can combine it with a visit to the gardens.

If the quality of the coffee is your main consideration, we'd start with Bean & Bud.

It's the most obvious choice for someone interested in single-origin coffee and the craft behind what's being served.

Pink Door is another good speciality option, while Crema combines serious attention to coffee with a much bigger breakfast and brunch offering.

Where to go for brunch

For coffee that turns into breakfast or brunch, try Crema or The Silver Fox.

Both work well when you want to sit down rather than simply grab a drink and leave.

Nomad is another option if you want something more substantial, particularly if your group has different tastes.

Where to go for coffee and cake

This is Harrogate. You're not going to struggle.

For the classic experience, it has to be Bettys.

For something more independent, explore places like Manna, Crema or Pink Door, where coffee sits alongside pastries and cakes without the formality of a traditional tearoom.

Where to find independent coffee shops

Don't limit yourself to Parliament Street.

Commercial Street gives you Bean & Bud alongside a collection of other independent businesses.

Cold Bath Road has developed its own food and drink scene.

King's Road takes you towards Pink Door and away from the busiest visitor streets.

And around Montpellier and Royal Parade, places such as Crema, The Silver Fox and Yellow Chair give you several good options within a relatively small area.

Part of the fun is simply exploring.

Coffee near Valley Gardens

If you're visiting Valley Gardens, you're particularly well served.

Crema and The Silver Fox are both on Royal Parade, while Yellow Chair is nearby on Montpellier Parade.

Walk a little further and you'll reach Cold Bath Road and another collection of independent places.

Or head in the opposite direction and you're soon back around Parliament Street and Bettys.

The Harrogate coffee shop we'd choose...

It depends what you're after.

For serious coffee, Bean & Bud.

For coffee and brunch, Crema.

For something new, The Silver Fox.

For coffee and something from the bakery, Manna.

For Italian coffee and lunch, Lago di Como.

For the classic Harrogate experience, Bettys.

And sometimes the best choice is simply whichever independent you discover while walking around town.

Harrogate has enough good ones that you don't need to drink the same coffee every time.
